Who we are
The Courant van Lazia is the newspaper of record for the Confederation of Mahuset and the community of nations around it. We report factually, neutrally and with care on the affairs of the state and of the wider micronational world — statecraft and diplomacy, public finance and government, culture and community life, and the lighter moments that a national paper is right to notice.
Our first commitment is to accuracy and even-handedness. We let the facts speak, and we do not editorialise in our news reporting; comment and opinion are labelled as such. Where we get something wrong, we correct it plainly.
What we cover
Our principal desks are Diplomacy & Intermicronational Affairs, Politics & Government, and Culture & Media. Alongside them we publish CvL Verify, our fact-checking column, and a daily selection of puzzles and games.
CvL Verify
CvL Verify examines the claims that circulate through the Confederation and the community of micronations, and rules on them along a scale from True to Preposterous. Each ruling sets out the claim, its source and the reasoning behind our verdict. We check the claims of friends and rivals alike.
Two editions, one masthead
The Courant is published in a full English edition and a full Dutch edition. Each is a true translation rather than a transliteration: idiom and rhythm are adapted to the language, and place names take their proper local form — Lazia in English, Lazië in Dutch. The masthead never changes: the paper is always the Courant van Lazia.
Standards and independence
How we write and how we conduct ourselves is set out in full in our Style Guide. The paper is bound to the Confederation but keeps its editorial judgement its own. Articles published without a byline are the work of the Courant van Lazia editorial staff.
