Lazia, 2 August 2020 — Hasan Çakar has become prime minister of the Confederation of Mahuset, succeeding Stephen Freayth, as the Confederation confronts a shortage of active citizens.
Çakar — the founder of Mahuset's close ally Hasanistan, and until now the deputy prime minister — takes over the premiership from Freayth, the Emperor of Abelden and one of the Confederation's founding figures. The handover comes a little over a year after the departure of the co-founder XO.
Setting out the situation to colleagues, President Emiel van der Huijsen warned that Mahuset "currently doesn't have enough citizens", and that it faced a choice between "either recruiting a bunch of citizens asap or going like Hasanistan and becoming a de facto dictatorship". He outlined several responses, among them finishing the Confederation's long-delayed constitution, recruiting lapsed members of the wider MicroWiki community, and granting senior figures the power to admit new citizens without the usual application process.
Freayth's tenure had been marked only weeks earlier by the renaming of the territory of Lundenland in his honour.
