Lazia, 9 November 2016 — The Confederation of Mahuset has established two institutes on the same day, one to keep its records and one to cultivate its arts. The Mahusetan Institute for History and Archiving (Dutch: Mahusetaans Instituut voor Geschiedenis en Archievering) has been made responsible for the archival, storage and access of government and historic documents; the Mahusetan Institute for the Arts (Dutch: Mahusetaans Instituut voor de Letteren) is charged with promoting and teaching the arts.

The archiving body answers a concern that would end in the government shutdown of 2016–17, while the arts institute went on to shape banknotes and state symbols before its absorption in 2022.

The archiving institute answers to a preoccupation visible in the Confederation almost from its founding: the keeping of its own past. That concern would reach its fullest expression in the government shutdown of 2016–17, called in part so that the state’s accumulated laws could at last be compiled and published.
The Institute for the Arts was given the wider brief, and made use of it. Its hand would in time be visible across Mahusetan public life, from banknotes to state symbols. It was among the bodies absorbed, in 2022, into the Mahusetan National University.
Between them the two bodies divide the work of remembering what the Confederation has done and of giving shape to how it presents itself — the orderly instincts of a state not yet a year old.
