Lazia, 23 August 2026 — A claim has circulated that Mahuset’s governing coalition is named after a slogan associated with Rita Verdonk. The Courant van Lazia has examined the record.
The governing alliance is Recht door zee ’24, and all three seat-holding parties sit in it: the centre-right Conservative Liberal Party, the centrist Independent Chamber Group and the centre-left Social Democratic Party. The Conservative Liberal Party has governed since the Confederation was founded and is led by Chad Lord-Stadtholder Emiel van der Huijsen. The phrase behind the name comes from Dutch politics. Rita Verdonk announced her movement Trots op Nederland on 17 October 2007 under the formulation “Niet links, niet rechts, maar recht door zee”, and the words have been attached to her since. They did not begin with her: Edzo Toxopeus introduced the phrase in 1954.
The claim says the coalition is named after a slogan associated with Verdonk, and that is what the record supports.
