Lazia, 22 June 2019 — The Mahusetan Institute of Vexillology has unveiled a new flag, rendered in colours visible to dogs, in honour of the dogs that have served in the Mahusetan armed forces. Since dogs are believed not to see the colour red, the flag is striped in yellow, grey and blue.
Unveiled at the institute’s channel on the official Mahusetan Discord server, the flag commemorates the service and sacrifice of the Confederation’s military and working dogs. President Emiel van der Huijsen, who presented it, was inspired by a comparable initiative in the United States, where the non-profit Project K-9 Hero, with the dog-chew brand DreamBone, helped with medical costs, food and end-of-duty care while introducing a dog-friendly variant of the American flag.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve left the house for three seconds or thirty hours, dogs are always excited to see you again,” the president said. “You can throw a ball across the yard all afternoon, and they’ll act like it’s the most amazing game on the planet. They can sense when you’re sick and lie protectively near you; they can sense when you’re sad and nudge your hand affectionately. That’s a friendship a dog brings to your life.”
