Lazia, 28 December 2016 — The Lazian Chamber has passed a bill prohibiting the celebration of Purple Friday and Spirit Day in the Confederation of Mahuset.
Spirit Day is an annual LGBT awareness day, observed on the third Thursday of October, on which participants wear purple in support of LGBT young people and against bullying. Purple Friday is its Dutch counterpart, marked on the second Friday of December. Under the Act, the celebration of both days — and of equivalent observances — is banned in Mahuset.
According to Mahusetan accounts, the bill had its origins in the marking of Purple Friday at a Dutch secondary school, which led President Emiel van der Huijsen to bring forward legislation to prohibit its celebration. The measure was carried in a vote held in the Facebook channel of the Lazian Chamber.
