Lazia, 4 July 2026 — Chad Emiel van der Huijsen, the Lord-Stadtholder, has extended the congratulations of the Confederation of Mahuset to the United States of America on the two-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of its declaration of independence.
In a message issued from Lazia, the Lord-Stadtholder offered “the warm and respectful greetings of the Confederation and its people” to the United States, its government and its citizens, and wished the republic “peace, prosperity and good government in the century to come”.
The gesture carries a certain asymmetry. The United States marks its semiquincentennial — two and a half centuries since the Declaration of Independence of 1776 — while the Confederation counts its own history in a handful of years. The Lord-Stadtholder appeared untroubled by the disparity, observing that “a nation’s standing is not measured in its years alone, and that the friendship of states great and small is the surer foundation of a stable order”.
He remarked on “the long tradition of self-government” the two nations were said to hold in common, and expressed the hope that relations between Mahuset and the United States “would continue in a spirit of goodwill”. No formal ties presently exist between the Confederation and Washington; the message, officials said, was offered in the ordinary course of comity rather than in the expectation of a reply.
The Lord-Stadtholder’s office confirmed that the message had been dispatched on the morning of the anniversary. It was, an official noted, the first occasion on which the Confederation had formally marked the national day of the United States.
