Lazia, 24 June 2026 — The Ministry of Digital Affairs has welcomed the United States' decision to ease its restrictions on foreign access to advanced artificial-intelligence models — among them Anthropic's Fable and Mythos and the latest GPT models — while calling the response lacklustre and half-hearted.
The easing follows the Confederation's condemnation earlier this month of the original restrictions, which the ministry had described as "disproportionate, destabilising, and hostile to the open development of digital civilisation".
"We welcome the easing of these controls as a step in the right direction," the ministry said. "But it is a small and grudging step. The harm done by treating the infrastructure of knowledge work as a geopolitical rationing system is not undone by a partial and reluctant climbdown." It repeated its earlier insistence that "digital civilisation cannot be built by locking every interesting thing behind a panic button".
