Lazia, 26 April 2022 — The Federal Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management has been renamed the Federal Rijkswaterstaat.
The new name is borrowed from Rijkswaterstaat, the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, and continues the Confederation's turn towards traditional Dutch nomenclature for its institutions — the same instinct that would, the following year, rename its two highest offices Lord-Stadtholder and Lord-Grand Pensionary.
The directorate is responsible for the Confederation's public works and the management of its water, a portfolio of particular resonance for a state much of whose claimed territory lies in the low-lying Netherlands. The change was among a run of renamings and reorganisations carried out by the National Convention of 2019 on 26 April 2022 as it reshaped the Mahusetan state.
Edited for the relaunch of the Courant van Lazia.
