Bleu Ultramarine SM to be merged into the state broadcasting foundation

Lazia, 27 August 2026 — Bleu Ultramarine SM, the publisher established in 2018 to give the Confederation a press beyond the official Courant van Lazia, is being merged into the Publieke Omroep Stichting (POS), the state foundation that administers public broadcasting. Its titles are being consolidated into POS outlets that already exist.

The reasoning given is that Bleu Ultramarine never built media infrastructure genuinely independent of the POS, and relied throughout on the infrastructure the foundation now administers. Consolidating the titles is held to be more effective than maintaining the appearance of independence when the substance was never there. On that reading, merging is the honest option.

The consolidation runs title by title. Editorial effort intended for the Husetaensche Stadstyding, the Mærsch Dagblad, Yore, the Daily Executive and Het Husetaans Dagblad now goes to the Courant van Lazia. Effort intended for the Icelynne Gazette goes to the Lazian Newswire, and Kompasstad’s Weekly Briefing takes on the work planned for what matters now.

The Lazian Newswire itself takes on a second register in the process. The short, tweet-like press announcements it has issued since its founding on 18 December 2021 continue unchanged. Alongside them the service will carry longer articles modelled on the news organisation Semafor and its Semaform format, which sets a story out in named sections — “The News” for the undisputed facts, “Reporter’s View” for the reporter’s own analysis, and “Room for Disagreement” for the case against it. The stated purpose of the division is that readers can see where the facts end and the reporter begins, rather than meeting the two blended into a single voice.

The Lænsche Courier-Post is the exception. It is merged not into another title but into the Courant van Lazia’s editorial desk itself. Development of short-form video content continues, tied to the Courant van Lazia and the Mahusetan Broadcasting Service.

A spokesman for the Publieke Omroep Stichting said the foundation continued to welcome independent media in Mahuset, and in particular titles that work with the Van der Huijsen-Çakar Press Association. “Independence matters, and it is worth having, but it is measured in infrastructure and staffing, not in the name on the masthead,” he said. “A title that runs entirely on this foundation’s infrastructure does not become independent merely because it carries a different name, and keeping up that appearance serves readers less well than merging honestly. The Press Association is what genuine co-operation between independent titles looks like, and we would rather see more of that than add another masthead of our own.”

The association, founded alongside the Batyr Bloc and revitalised on 5 July 2026 by the bloc’s states and allied media, serves Mahuset, Hasanistan, Brennonia, Knuffeldierland and friendly partners, allowing member outlets to share insights and articles and to pool coverage, and providing shared infrastructure for high-quality journalism. Material passed through it is re-edited by each receiving title rather than republished wholesale, “so that every medium retains its own independent voice”. At the revitalisation Chad Lord-Stadtholder Emiel van der Huijsen said: “A free press is stronger when it works together. This association exists to share resources, infrastructure and insight — never to dictate a single voice.”

Bleu Ultramarine SM was established on 17 January 2018, when the publisher and the press agency Independent Press General FM launched the Lænsche Courier-Post and the Icelynne Gazette, with the Husetaensche Stadstyding, the Mærsch Dagblad, Yore and the Daily Executive expected to follow. Most of the planned titles never appeared, and only two articles were published before the venture fell dormant: the first announced it, and the second was an editorial by Emiel van der Huijsen, then president, who cast the project as an attempt to emulate L’Sydunche, the Abeldane Telegraph and similar titles. It inspired the short-lived left-wing title The Matsian Telegraph. On 22 June 2019 the publisher announced plans to relaunch its eight online newspapers “in the post-XO era”, aiming at “providing truthful news about Mahuset and the rest of the micronational community” and promising a relatively large roster of journalists; that relaunch never materialised.

The Publieke Omroep Stichting was established on 13 October 2021 to administer public broadcasting. It owns the Courant van Lazia, the Mahusetan Broadcasting Service, the Lazian Newswire, Kompasstad’s Weekly Briefing, Ætherstichting and Studio Drunken Memories of a Sickle and Sceptre, and part-owns Stichting Aetherstock. This newspaper is therefore reporting on its own proprietor, and is the principal beneficiary of the consolidation described here, taking on five of the merged mastheads as well as the work of the Lænsche Courier-Post.
