Chamber introduces net neutrality and adopts internet rights charter

Lazia, 1 October 2017 — The Lazian Chamber has voted to introduce net neutrality in the Confederation — requiring that internet access be broadly available and free from unreasonable restrictions — and has adopted the Charter of Human Rights and Principles for the Internet.

The measures were passed on the day the Confederation’s long government shutdown formally ended. In requiring that internet access be broadly available and free from unreasonable restrictions, and in adopting the Charter of Human Rights and Principles for the Internet, Mahuset set down a commitment to online freedom that would recur in later policy — from its anti-shadowbanning legislation to a referendum-endorsed right to internet access.
