Lazia, 24 May 2026 — Cats serving in public office in the Confederation of Mahuset are henceforth to be addressed as "gentlenyan", under a decree of the Chadly Chancery that also elevates the birthday of Lord-Mouser Thor, the state's most senior feline official, to a national holiday.

Cats in Mahusetan public office are to be styled 'gentlenyan' under a decree that also makes a national holiday of the birthday of Lord-Mouser Thor.

The chancery, formally the Chadly Chancery of the Confederation of Mahuset for Civic and Military Honours, administers the Confederation's honours. It said the measure recognised "the longstanding and distinguished participation of cats in the civic and emotional life of the Confederation".
The decree, issued by Chad Lord-Stadtholder Emiel van der Huijsen, extends the style to cats in public office and to those otherwise recognised as holding positions equivalent to public service. In Dutch the honorific is edelnyan.
Among the examples the decree lists is "The Right Honourable Gentlenyan Thor, Lord-Mouser to the Executive Office", presently the most prominent feline officeholder in the Mahusetan state apparatus.
The same decree makes Thor's birthday a national holiday, recognising both his "cute and stunning appearance" and his "historically lacklustre but symbolically significant mousing performance". Official records indicate that his practical contribution against rodents has been limited, but the chancery said his value in morale, companionship and ceremonial presence "substantially exceeded expectations in adjacent operational domains".
Public institutions are expected to observe the holiday in a largely ceremonial capacity. Preliminary guidance from the Ministry for General Affairs recommends reduced administrative activity, the voluntary distribution of cat treats and the display of feline imagery "where appropriate and aesthetically justified".
Asked to comment, Chad Lord-Stadtholder Van der Huijsen declined to issue a written statement, replying instead with an animated image of an anime catgirl. The Executive Office later confirmed that the response was authentic and "not inconsistent with the spirit of the decree".
