National Convention ends Abeldane fast track, gives four states a points advantage

Lazia, 27 August 2026 — The National Convention of 2019 has rescinded the standing offer of fast-track citizenship to citizens of the now defunct Abeldane Empire. In its place, citizens of Hasanistan, Brennonia, Newer Eiffel and Austenasia are to be given an advantage in Mahuset’s points-based immigration system. The Ministry of Immigration and Alien Affairs (MINIMA) will administer the change. The National Convention is a standing body, not the single gathering its name suggests; the Lazian Chamber recognised its legitimacy in June 2023.

The offer had promised Abeldane citizens an accelerated passage to Mahusetan citizenship. It was a mark of old association: the Abeldane emperor, Stephen Freayth, was Mahuset’s first elected prime minister. Since the empire’s end there is nobody left to take it up. “An offer made to the citizens of a state that no longer exists can do nothing for anybody,” the National Convention said in the text of the measure. Former subjects are not shut out; they may still apply by the ordinary routes.

The ministry was created in 2019 to devise programmes to grow the confederation’s small citizenry. A shortage of citizens has recurred ever since as a defining preoccupation of Mahusetan public life, and the advantage now offered to the four states is the latest instrument brought to bear on it.

Hasanistan and Brennonia are Mahuset’s fellow core members of the Batyr Bloc, the association the three states maintain for diplomatic co-operation, joint projects and cultural exchange. The tie is not only a formal one. Much of the citizenry of the three is already shared, the same people holding citizenship in more than one of them.

Newer Eiffel, also known as Knuffeldierland, is bound to Mahuset by a friendship treaty, and the two governments overlap in person: Zabélle Skye-Greys sits in Mahuset’s cabinet as Minister for Education, Culture, Sport and Science and is at the same time Vice-President of Knuffeldierland. Austenasia holds a friendship treaty of its own, providing for recognition, the peaceful settlement of disputes and non-interference. It is the most established of the four as a micronation.

The four routes to citizenship — Residence, Descent, Naturalisation, and Marriage or partnership — are unchanged. An applicant must still qualify under one of them. The points system is how an application is assessed rather than a replacement for the routes, and the advantage is to be applied within it.
