The Confederation sought the first treaty itself and the Khanate of Nedland asked for the second, a pairing that produced free travel and, later, failed union talks.

The Lurk treaty was one of a cluster concluded that autumn, when a run of states entered into relations with the Confederation in quick succession. There the initiative was Mahuset’s own, the Noble Republic having been approached at Lazia’s request.
Nedland, by contrast, sought the treaty itself. The Khanate, led by Natsuki Hegro, would become one of Mahuset’s most closely entangled neighbours: a treaty of free travel was signed the same month, and the two states later opened negotiations on a political union to be styled “Mahuso-Nedland”. Those talks collapsed over the titles to be borne by the leadership and over a common flag.
Neither recognition proved permanent. Lurk and Nedland alike were among eight now-extinct nations whose treaties the Confederation formally repealed in January 2019, voiding the recognitions once the states themselves had ceased to exist.
