National Convention establishes the honorific 'Chad'

Lazia, 7 November 2021 — The National Convention of 2019 has established the honorific title "Chad", a designation for individuals of exceptional merit in Mahusetan public life.

The title is conferred on a non-hereditary basis. It carries no legal privilege or duty, but serves as a marker of institutional recognition for service or conduct the government regards as exemplary.

In its first act of conferment, the National Convention granted the title to the four patres patriae: President Emiel van der Huijsen, Prime Minister Chase Nanatovich, Deputy Prime Minister Hasan Çakar and the Count of Noorderhout, Shady Hosam Morsi.

The four were identified by consensus as having held roles of formative or continuing significance in the constitutional, diplomatic, administrative or cultural life of the Confederation. Their selection is a retrospective acknowledgment of past effort rather than a judgment on the offices they now hold.

The resolution explains that the title derives from internet meme culture, where it was coined to describe an exaggerated alpha-male archetype. It cites Wikipedia for the term's evolution from early American slang for assertive, affluent young men into the "Chad vs. Virgin" meme circulated on platforms such as 4chan.

It further cites Merriam-Webster to the effect that the word began with pejorative connotations but has increasingly acquired a positive or ironic sense, applied to figures admired for confidence or impact. In choosing an informal label the National Convention sought a deliberate contrast with conventional honorifics, resting the choice on symbolic resonance rather than on lexical authority.

The measure forms part of a wider effort to formalise symbolic recognition within the Mahusetan civic tradition, and was adopted without recorded opposition.

Further nominations will be conferred by an Act of the Lazian Chamber or by decree of the President of the Confederation of Mahuset.
